a guy i knows phone was taken from him by the police, when a house he was in was raided for drugs.

he had nothing to do with the drugs, had none on him, was not under the influence and didnt live there, and was not arrested or anything.

the police still took his phone, for many months...they have now said he can have it back, but my mate reckons they must have put a tap on it, to trace all his calls and texts etc

i cant see why theyd bother monitioring him if he was not even involved (the people at the house were arrested and are now in prison)

could the police do this? would they? seems like paranoia to me but...is it...?

he doesnt want the phone back now, because he doesnt like the idea of being tapped...but who would even bother trailing through all his texts etc?

surely this is illegal too?

i am asking because he has said i can have the phone if i want as its agood one...but i cant say i like the idea of being bugged either...haha

cheers

you've been watching too much Crime TV! The only way to tap a mobile is to put a tap in the phone itself, open it up and look - no bug, no tap!
He might not have been arrested but he obviously knows the type that will be.

Take the phone if you have nothing to hide.....they won't listen for too long.

The drug dealers I know do their business on £10 tesco phones that they change every few weeks...
Mercia...you're wrong on that account.
They wouldn't tap the actual phone itself...

If they wanted to listen into the calls it would be done through the service provider, not through the handset.

Put a different sim in the handset and don't worry about it.
I was talking to an army bloke in Cyprus.....he said they an listen to anything they want.

When in Cyprus....don't mention bombs.
*can
The reality is that the police probably don't 'tap' phones themselves but get info from the spy centre that is at the heart of the 'listening' service. They would not be bothered with the rubbish most people say on phones.
It similar to cctv cameras that they have and only view it when something 'happens'.
I costs far too much to monitor mass telephone calls.
I was told, by a criminal, that certain words get flagged in text messages.

Cocaine...gear...etc

tahts what i thought...imagone the man power itd take...and i reckon most would use code words anyway

he says he has nothing to hide really eother regards the phone - he smokes weed but hes not a dealer or anything so i cant see them being interested in him...unless they think they will get dealers numbers...but then they will laready have those from the address book...

oh well at least i get a free phone eh haha
You're right....don't worry and do what Chuck says :-)
I love a good conspiriacy theory lol

OMG.
i have just heard that apparently, now the pjudge has had the phones destroyed...mmm

how can he do that? surely that would not be allowed...especially since this guy was not even charged or arrested!

why would they offer it him back - then destroy it...
