I can hire the tins no problem, and I'll make and ice the cakes myself, and do the sugar-craft rose/flowermaking - I can't decide which one to copy. The couple will have been married 40 years, and didn't have a proper reception first time around, they just went out for a meal with their parents, one bridesmaid and the best man - this time they're having a reception for 200+, (end of November) they're a lovely couple and I wanted to do something nice for them

Damn, didn't come out, under Traditional, either of the first two, bordeaux or petal cascade
Mercia the pics are lovely, but I can't tell which has which name....? Personally, if they didn't have a cake first time round, I would go for something traditional - the second page (white with red flowers) is lovely and simple - but it depends how wacky the couple are, they will have been married in 1970 so anything could go!

Just above where it says 'specialists in Wedding Cakes' there is a 'bar' with
'home, novelty wedding, contemporary - traditional -
click on 'traditional' and it's the first two, Bordeaux and petal cascade
Scientists have discovered a food that diminishes a woman's sex drive by 90%. It's called "a wedding cake".

Give over Red! They've already been married 40 years!!
to be honest, i'm not keen on either, a bit too fussy for my taste, sorry mercia.
what about something a bit more contemporary? we got married in the 70s and only had a small wedding although we did have a cake, but if i was to renew my vows then i'd want something more modern.
Hi mercia ! ;-D

I'm just stuck! I know she doesn't want a chocolate cake, and I know she doesn't like the trend to have cup-cakes to make a wedding cake. There will be star-gazer lillies and roses in the church, but I don't know what colour.
I asked my wife, "Where do you want to go for our anniversary?"
She said, "Somewhere I have never been!"
I told her, "How about the kitchen?"
They are both lovely - I think myself I would go for the Petal Cascade.
We had two cakes for our wedding 5 years ago - the wedding cake was zany, 3 layers in peacock colours with peacock feathers bursting out of the top cake ball - the for the evening we had a trad square cake.
Lucky people - these look beautiful. I envy people who have this skill, baking is a talent I don't have.
What beautiful cakes, and a nice idea mercia. Bordeaux gets my vote.
I'd choose the petal cascade too. The first one is too Ruby.
in the 'contemporary' section, the first one - valencia - is the one i like, but instead of a bunch of flowers on the top, you could do a trail of stargazer lillies or roses winding their way down. i personally prefer cakes which stack like the valencia, rather than on a stand or pillars. i really don't like the trend for cupcakes either.
i'm sure whichever one you eventually do they'll love it, more so that you've taken the time and trouble to do it personally.

What do you think of 'Stowe' last but one under the Traditional bar - that's star-gazer lillies and roses...
that's a nice one mercia, maybe the pillar is a bit too tall, makes the cake a little out of balance/top heavy? perhaps reduce the pillar height by a third? and the red is a bit vivid, although if they're having red roses it would go with the theme.
but hey, what do i know??? :)
