I have been told that it is possible to use Windows XP on my MacBook.

Would I just have to purchase a copy of XP and load it on? Are there any potential disasters lurking if I were to do this?

I like my MacBook and Safari - but I much prefer working with Windows (especially Word).

You can install Windows on a Mac but it is a bit extreme if all you want to do is use Word.
Here are some good, free alternatives.

Ta - the main problem is that my on-line back-up is held by Carbonite and has been uploaded using Windows. I am unable to now download the back-up to this MacBook.

Another option would to have Windows reinstalled on my PC - which is seemingly the solution to its current ill-health.
Go with the freeware alternatives eg. 'openoffice'.......
