I hope the team are as ashamed of their "performance" in this tournament as we are to have supported them.
A lack of effort, passion, pride & imagination have done for us once again - over all 4 games.
Yes, had Lampard's goal been allowed, it might have altered the mindset of both teams for the 2nd half, but it wasn't & England let it get to them & Germany took full advantage.

Can anybody tell me where all these great English players will come from ? Most of the schools no longer have playing fields and the mindset in education is everybody is equal and mustn't lose, hardly the way to produce outstanding players. These " excellent players of the future "certainly aren't there at the moment, why else are the English leagues full of foreign players ?
IMHO the players - whoever they are - must NOT be bullied into playing out of position in a system that they're unfamiliar with.
The manager must be big enough to accept criticism from the team if they think that something's wrong - ultimately, they're the ones trying to do a sometimes impossible job, but do know how to play with & against each other from their league experience, given the chance.

I'm not in the least surprised at the series of abject performances provided by our squad throughout this tournament.
From the outset, expectations of this England XI were built up with unbelievable hype from both the Press and supporters alike, when in reality they've not shown they are capable of playing to the standards required to compete at top international level for many a year!!
Most of these players simply live in a false paradise, coccooned from the realities of life as we know it, by the unrealistic salary levels received!

Mr J was saying that in '66 the players were paid a salary on a par with a schoolteacher. Now look at the ridiculous wages they get - it's totally out of proportion to what they do. Oh I'm still angry after watching the match. I got the impression half of them didn't want to be there. Still, I suppose their playing in the World Cup will make a useful entry on their CVs and bump their pay up even further. Grrrrrrrrrrrr

I'd be cautious about blaming either just the manager or the players. The responsibility lies with the English media who constantly and persistently overhype a squad of players which are at best, reasonably good footballers.
The hysteria in the media about England footballers is unfailingly kept at boiling point, and has been so long before this tournament began. It is this false expectation which dupes many fans into believing that these ordinary players are somehow of superhuman skill on the field of play. It happens every time, bar none.
People use the fact that the Premiership is still awash with obscene amounts of cash as the yardstick with which to measure the combined abilities of the national team, conveniently forgetting that they are not only bolstered by so many foreigners, but that it is the latter who enhance the league's reputation, far more so than the English players themselves.
Ask yourselves this? How many young English players of true world class have broken into the national team, say, since 2000? Perhaps the hitherto misfiring Wayne Rooney? And possibly John Terry, but I can honestly think of no one else. Others, such as Gerrard, Lampard, Ashley Cole were more or less already in England squads by then.
Which tells us what? That maybe there hasn't been any other young English guy good enough? That maybe such players are not being given a proper chance at their clubs who would rather lash the cash on expensive foreigners? That maybe top Premiership clubs are therefore far more interested in trying to win the Champions League rather than groom promising youngsters for the national side?
English football is at a crossroads. The facts are that most of today's England team will be too old for the next World Cup. But where are their replacements? Er....ahh...ummmm...............Pass!.....Ask me one on sport!

I concur with Vulcan regarding the lack of English players in the Premiership ie Arsenal = 1, Liverpool = 3 Chelsea = 3 Man Utd = 4 or 5.
All the countries that are doing well at this World Cup, all have players playing abroad, such as Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.
As this process occurs, then more of their home grown players come through into their own leagues.They therefore have a continuous production line of home grown players which England has never had.
