sprayer if you do try it try it before the race so that you know how it works.
don't leave it until the last minute
You can't record from Iplayer (legally) and put it onto a memory stick for somebody else, the DRM (digital right management) embedded into the file will stop you.

it is probably possible to strip the DRM out, but as you would breaking copyright laws.

Thanks for your answers, it seems a very complicated way of going about things whereas if I had a PVR I could record it and transfer it to a DVD with no probs.
but I don't have a PVR so will tell them to go to iplayer when they get home and hope it is still on there.
If you know anyone with a Virgin Media V+ box, they could record it for you.
Well, it's very straightforward (on a Mac anyway). Simply use iPlayer Downloader. This will download the programme you want after which you can burn it to dvd or put it on a memory stick. It's not HD but is fine on a normal monitor or tv screen (i.e. not a 40 inch monster). The files wont delete themselves after a set time like they would if you downloaded straight from iPlayer.

As an aside, can someone tell me why it was ok for most of the population to have VHS video recorders attached to their TVs and to be recording programmes whenever they wanted and it was considered ok, whereas now everyone quotes copyright, DRM etc etc simply because we've gone digital?
It never was OK to copy copyright material but it was impossible to police. It was allowed to continue because it was time consuming and difficult to make extra copies. As technology improved the ability to reproduce copies increased to the extent that now anyone with a computer can do at speed. It is often said that DRM is restrictive. In fact it is less so on CD's and MP3/4 music. For instance there is no right to copy a CD or Vinyl (Perhaps 1 not for use copy for backup perhaps) iTunes allowed 5 for use copies on other computers for purchased MP3/4 downloads, I believe Amazon is similar

Thanks for your answer Twenty20 I am using windows 8 on a packard bell PC, I have tried downloading a test programme from iplayer which works fine but wherever you look there is no way to transfer the downloaded prog. to a memory stick. so I am amazed it can be done on a Mac.
sprayer can you burn it to a cd

No Dr Filth have tried that and it seems the only way to look at it is on the PC it was originally downloaded to, it doesn't matter what you do there seems to be no way of burning it to CD or DVD or saving to memory stick..
There is a program called Stream Transport...

http://www.streamtransport.com/

This can download iPlayer content. The file downloaded is an “flv” so you'll need some software to convert the file to DVD format if you want to burn it.
