After going on holiday and then the half term, where bedtimes obviously out the norm. my daughter now is not going to sleep until after 9pm. I used to put her to bed about 7.45/8pm and she would go straight off. I have even tried putting her earlier, but she just lies in bed talking to herself. i am worried because she obviously has school. she does all the bed routine thing but still the same. i am wondering whether it is because of the lighter nights? she does have black out curtains but still some light comes over the top. Is this happened to anyone elses kids? Any tips?

snap. my 5 year old can stay awake til that time and hes driving me crazy!!!!!
its a rare night now that he falls asleep within minutes.
At least your daughter stays in bed though, my son can be up and down all night

I am hoping its just a (very short) phase as i have tried everything!
duh, my lads still 4, hes 5 in 2 weeks lol. Is it obvious im not getting much sleep??
Red. My son has never needed much sleep since the day he was born. Oh, apart from that teenage stage between 14-17 where he could sleep all day.

When he was young I used to let himself get worn out so he virtually fell asleep instantaneously at whatever time he went to bed. He never went through a grizzly overtired state, was as bright as a button and happy as larry and then just crashed.

If we put him to bed reasonably early and he wasn't tired he would just lay there and in the end would be wide awake and unable to sleep (active mind I suppose).
it could be that, lottie, but we also have the sleepwalking issue which im sure is because his mind is working overtime.
He was sat up in bed the other night, chatting away to me about "picking a colour to go around the diamond" at that point i realised he wasnt actually awake.
My son takes after most of Mr LL's family, they just don't seem to need sleep. Me I could sleep for England!!
perhaps with the lighyt nights there isnl;t the same wind down before bedtime that settles them into nighttime mode. That is like someone changing from day shift to night shift and they can't get sed to it for a while. Starting the bedtime routine at the same time that you would in winter months should settle them better but with light nights it is not easy as your own life is geared to responding to the lighter nights.
My daughter is often the same but surprisingly enough she is fine the next day. I have stopped bothering about it now as she is put to bed at 8 and stays there whether she is asleep or not!
What is your little girl like through the day? If she's not obviously tired it could just be that she doesn't need much sleep.
I think the main thing is that they aren't up and down the stairs all night disturbing your peace!

Thanks for all your answers. To be honest she isnt tired during the day, she can get snappy and irratable but that be more to do with her being 5 coming on 15! She has a bit of an attitude! She is my only child and it is probably just me worrying. i suppose i worry about school and would feel bad if the teacher thought i was putting her to bed late. i will check on a parents evening coming up that she us not tired during the day. oh and dont get me wrong sometimes she is out of bed constantly but think i may have stopped that a bit!! dont know for how long mind!
Thanks again
Mine's 5, and goes to bed at 7.30 and can still be heard chunnering to herself past 9 most nights. And she's still up at 6.30 every morning.
