Where have all the monsters and creatures gone. It seems most of the story's are in the UK now instead of out of space or in other worlds etc?

The recession, budget cuts etc ... genuinely!

The writers were told they were going to have to be more creative to counter the spending cuts.

It's still ok but seams more like seventies show Tales Of The Unexpected ...
I don't watch Dr Who but it seems strange to me that a show that the BBC must sell quite successfully globally is hit by budget cuts but then it seems quite clear to me that whoever is in charge at the Beeb is quite clueless.
It;s called dumbing down .... we did reckon though that some of last week's episode was shot in France (Provence), where we go in France is virtually the same scenery and it could notbe anywhere else. However, there was quite a bit that had been filmed in the UK.
To be honest, most of the *other planets/worlds* of the 70's were an old quarry/gravel pit just outside Oxford...........
Do you mean in "New Who" compared to "Classic Who" or Matt Smith compared to David Tennant?
Who have been recording in Croatia (the Vampires in Venice and Vincent and the Doctor episodes), not France.

I agree, it is most likely the cut in their budget that has forced the writers not to feature too many aliens. That said, they have been saved up for the final two episodes to come over the next couple of weeks.
Dr Who?
I can't watch Dr Who now. The new Doctor isn't the least bit fanciable. His crosseyed, pug eared grins put me right off me tea :-(
Boo you just cant beat the broad northern accent, Indiana jones hat, jumble sale scarf and deep piercing serial killer glare of Tom baker! Now that was a Dr Who you could set your watch to!

Noooo way, I preferred the Christopher Ecclestone one, he was lovely! David Tennant was ok, if a bit babyfaced.

I couldn't watch Dr Who as a child, they scared me silly.
Im not talking about fancibility im talking about comedy vale!
Value^^^
I was!
Come on boo you would especially after several white wine spritzers!
He was from liverpool? I always thought he was from yorkshire!

chokkie, how is it 'dumbing down' ?

Tom Baker - "broad northern accent"?! There was a tiny trace of his Merseyside roots in there but by no stretch 'broad'.

I think it's an overstatement that they're all in the UK now but even if they were it's no bad thing - the Earth-bound era of Pertwee had some great stuff
