To all atheists on here out there, if you were compelled, and must join in a religious denomination which would you choose to follow – Judaism , Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Baha’i, Hinduism, Scientology, etc.?

I see today that the Catholic's have now announced that the kiddie fiddling is not connected with celibate Priests feeling desparate to shoot their loads into any poor child they can find ...

... it's all the fault of the gays !!!!

Un - be - fcuking - lievable !!

The Church have the nerve to try to win some mileage out of the paedophile Priest business by saying ...

"See ... we told you so ... it's all down to homosexuality !"
Actually Society, I think you'd be right.

I've read up a lot on Buddhism because I do like 'their' philosophical understanding of life, and how they believe the whole universe is intertwined. One philosophy of theirs which I do believe is that the solutions to our problems are within us.
Aah ... clever, Society.

If the solutions to our problems are within us, and (according to most organised religions) God is in all of us, then a solution from within us comes from God.

Of course, if we make a howlingly bad decision, the organised religions can fall back on the "God gave us free will" argument.
Ha ha! My sentiments exactly, JJ. You got it in one.

Night all. Much love. x

hi Naomi - to answer your earlier question and try not to hijack a thread (sorry Society) so i'll try give you the short answer. I guess that most of my life i would have believed in pantheism, but felt the need for structure. Paganism (in particular, Celtic belief strands) met the needs. I took part /take part with the belief that the god/goddess deity names were in fact symbolic of certain aspects of nature - actually quite a few pagans see things this way - and not physical godheads. As I get older i no longer see the need to have this structure and I accept that nature is all encompassing, but I do still strongly see and believe in the duality of the universe. Hope that's explained things?

As a man thinketh, so is he.

"As A Man Thinketh” by James Allen. I've read this book countless times, each time I've opened it, it's always like the first. http://tinyurl.com/9czqz
Oh - one thing - we still celebrate the wheel of the year, nothing changes there... Still loves the party! Roll on Bealtaine!
Whickerman, thanks for explaining that - and cheers! :o)

Society, I haven't read that - but I will.
Thank you, Mr Veritas, for bringing me up-to-date re the Pantheon.

Keep your hair on, society. I 'dare' becuse I'm entitled to. Pompousness does not become you. I called your question pointless because, well, it tells you nothing about atheists except what insincere attitude each would take if forced to.

If you were forced at gunpoint to believe in one of the following , which would it be: Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, unicorns? And what would your choice tell us about you?

Of course, you could argue that the number of answers you have received means that your question was not pointless in many people's eyes, so I apologise.
And there was me thinking that the Pantheon was a little guy with goats feet playing a sort of pipes!

Seriously, does this debate start to touch on the difference between atheists and nontheists? ( http://en.wikipedia.o...ki/List_of_nontheists ) How do you define a religious denomination? At what point does a belief become a religion?
That question is worthy of its own thread, Androcles.
Off the top of my head I would say that a belief qualifies as a religion when it is a belief in gods, as distinct from a belief in a flat earth, astrology, tarot cards, magic crystals, ley lines, ESP, reincarnation, Uri Geller, etc.etc.
