Prepare the children. Take a few minutes to wash their faces and hands (if they are small) comb their hair and, if necessary, change their clothes. They are little treasures and he would like to see them playing their part. Minimise all noise. At the time of his arrival eliminate all noise of the washer, dryer or vacuum cleaner. Try to encourage the children to be quiet.

• Be happy to see him.

• Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him
• Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first – remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours.

• Make the evening his. Never complain if he comes home late or goes out to dinner, or other places of entertainment without you. Instead, try to understand the world of strain and pressure and his very real need to relax.

Boxtops, which era are you from?

Only a dog does the above requests obediently.
Pretty much in line with the 'surrendered wives' in the USa today

I prefer when your husband arrives home hand him a take out menu and remind him you were at work two hours earlier than him this morning and if he wants to be able to father children with anyone in the future he'd better get the table laid as well

And I keep the remote....
Ah, the secret of a happy marriage; always keep separate TVs !
This is a wind up really ?
what is it with blokes and the remote?
People really used to think like that

When I was about to get married in 1980 an aunt gave me a book on a similar theme

All about taking off your pinny before he got home and having the martinis ready

Ha Ha ..... as if there'd be any left...

I still know some older ladies who still believe this way is the way to a happy marriage and most have been married 50 years or more I expect they think we have it all wrong My friends elderly mother still bought herself pretty undies and nighties (for her husbands benefit ) until he died a few years ago and used to get up early to have her makeup on before he got up

Then again she is a dainty littly fluffy bunny type....
