Hi all and thanks for reading,

I have a x reg (2000) Renault Clio 1.2 Grande, yesterday whilst reversing there was a big clunk and my rear left hand wheel locked. I got out to inspect but obviously couldnt see any thing. I then drove backwards and forwards trying different things like braking or accelorating but everything seemed ok. It then happened again whislt reversing but again after i had stopped everything was ok again.
I've just reversed all the way down the raod to see if it would happen again but it didnt.

Does anyone know what is causing this?

I have to drive from South Wales to London later and am a tad concerned about getting stuck on the M4

Any ideas?

thanks in advance

There is a possibility of a couple of things ...
Rear cylinder starting to leak and wetting shoe, which can cause shoe to grab on.
Dust and shoe wear in general
Retaining spring broken, or shoe adjusters getting seized.

None are serious. Shoes usually only lock wheel when wheel travels in opposite direction to norm. This is because of the leading edges of the shoe lining can help grabbing on.

If it is not grabbing on forward, get it sorted asap. You may need shoes, cylinders, and a cleanout. Try driving about on some bumpy stuff and warm brakes up a bit.
It could also be the brake shoe material coming off the backing shoe, set of new shoes are not to expensive, as above get it done.
