Hi all

Just about to buy a soundcard, and was looking for alternatives to creative..and i do not have pci express either

I just want a decent card for music, no games or surround sound etc, i dont need rca inputs either, so any suggestions would be welcomed.

It will be for creating mp3 using either lame or flac and also a small bit of editing, and obviously playback

Thank you

any reason you don't want creative?

From what you've said any cheap sound card will do, creating and editing MP3's doesn't actually use the sound card at all (other than for playback when you preview it) the processing is all done by the main CPU.
Creative X-Fi Extreme Audio ... OEM or Retail will do you.
That's the kiddy.

Thinking about this, I'm curious.

What on earth are you fitting this to? because anything I can think of made recently enough to consider editing music with would have at the very least a soundcard built onto the motherboard that would do everything you have said.
