There is a strange burning smell coming from my Mondeo Ghia Estate 2003. It appears to be coming from the back and I was thinking it might have something to do with rear brakes or brake fluid. It only passed MOT a month ago. Any ideas? It's a "dry" smell like friction burning and only at the back of the car

See if the car rolls easily on the flat.
Could be ...
Brake linings (rear discs? .. if so, unlikely)
Cat smell .. shouldn't be permanent, only on warm up phase.
Clutch lining ... slip.
