i've lived in the same house for 20+ years and never had any problems with fieldmice until last year when i put woodland bark down in the garden and now we are bothered with them all the time my brother bought some humane traps but no sooner than we catch one and release it over a mile away another one shows up in its place we can't put poison down because i have a dog so do you think removing the woodland bark from the garden will solve the problem

Field mice are lovely little creatures and do no harm and I don`t think the bark has attracted them so if mice are coming into your house then they are a different breed and you will need to contact a reputable vermin eradicator. Other than that, get an owl or cat.
You need to find out how they are getting in and stop up the (could be very small) gap. Ours get into the cavity below ground level we think!
We get field mice in our loft in the winter as they want to come in out of the cold. We also get them in the garden shed and occaisionally under the bonnet of the cars (they chew the sound insulation under the bonnet lid and the casing on the air con pipes.
We put traps in the shed and under the bonnet and poison in the loft.
I hate poisoning the little blighters but after trying to stop them for 2 years decided that we could no longer afford to let them continue to destroy things and poo and wee all over the ceilings.
BTW; we also have a dog but ensure that the traps are not accessible by her and of course she can't get into the loft to the poison.
