Nope, they accumulate from the left as you open the applications. (But of course, you can open the applications in the order that you want them to appear)
But why does it matter?

well I normally do open them in the correct order but if one crashes and I restart they are in the wrong order. It matters because I have a work system that is easier when I know what session is where without looking.
