I was reading the Metro on the train this morning coming into work when I came across an article about how a baby of 4-6 months old had been buried alive in cement.  It was decovered that the little baby, named as Lara by Police had been beaten and sexually abused before she died.  I was so upset reading this, how could someone do such a thing?  Pure evil.  I hope the Police find out who did this cruel and terrible thing.

andy, i don't think your actual opinion was the cause of all this berating.

i don't even think the *specific* subject matter was what turned people against you.

it was your tone of voice: sarcasm, condescension and ridicule rarely go down well in what is after all, a community of ABers. (certainly not when you ridicule someone's exposed feelings.)

many people feel - rightly - safe in the AB environment that while heated arguments may well be held, animosity and nastiness will be kept at a minimum.

it's not about not having an opinion; it's about expressing it in a sensitive, tactful, "adult" (your word not mine) way.

sarcasm and vitriol may work well in certain other threads, but probably not one concerning the brutal murder of babies.

purely my thoughts on the matter. i'm sure i'll be excused for having an opinion.

Here Here Trillipse.

I know that bad things happen to adults, children, animals etc all the time but commenting as a relatively new mother (my son is almost one) I am always more repulsed (rightly or wrongly) by crimes against babies and children then I am by crimes against adults. I suspect this is an opinion shared by a lot of people.

I am a firm believer in "what goes around comes around" so the perpetrator(s) of this hideous act will be made to suffer - if not in this life then certainly in the next.

This leads me to think that the world has never been any better. This happened 15 years ago. People go on about how things have got worse. No they havn't it's just we hear more about it these days.

It's aweful and dispicable. I heard a baby screaming at the hospital a few days ago and thought if a baby screams like that when its in pain, how can anybody harm it intetionaly. The mind just boggles at the horror that some people can commit.

It makes weep it really does.

God bless little Lara.

im sure this is the case where it was also stated in the first original report that the baby had a untreated abcess and would have been in unbearable pain.
I have no wish to start any kind of argument about religion, because this isn't the place - if there's any place. But purely in the interest of trying to help poor Libertie... and Butter... and Smudge.. and all the other good, empathetic people who have been shocked by this atrocity, I have to say this... I AM religious, rightly or wrongly, and I DO believe the Bible holds absolute proof not only that those who do such things will one day be made to answer for their wickedness, and punished with death, but that also, that poor innocent child will return to us, and to it's parents, unharmed and as beautiful as ever, in the resurrection. To me, that is the final answer to this kind of evil, and to me at least it is real. I hope it comforts you - regardless of your own belief.
Is there a link on the Internet to this news story? I have searched but have found nothing. I didn't see a newspaper with the article either. Can anyone throw some light on this?
