If anyone is interested this is a very good site for all the types of bird seed and quite reasonably priced.

The niger seed will bring in the goldfinches. I have a flock ( about a dozen) come every morning. they also like sunflower seed hearts and they don't make a mess on the ground.

Thanks McTavish. The Goldfinches have abandoned us and gone to our neighbours, so we are enticing them back. Mind you, we now have their woodpeckers and their moorhens. We share the pheasants!! I will look at that site.
