ok... its just that I heard you didnt

I have never heard that you dont need one. Have been there a few times and have always been asked for my passport at the ferry terminal. Have just checked out http://www.worldtravelguide.net/data/fra/fra040.aspl. and it says on there you need it. Hope this helps

You may have heard that people haven't had their passports checked when going to France, but it doesn't mean they are not required.

Quite often, they catch a glimpse of one person (in a car, say) with an EU passport, and so just wave you through. In this way it would be possible  to travel without one. In years past, I have only had my passport checked upon returning to these shores.

However, in the current climate, expect your passport to be checked. Frequently. Especially upon your return to the UK. If you don't have it with you, expect to hang around having a cosy little chat with the Immigration boys.

My daughter and son-in-law work for customs & Excise and you definatly need a passport for France - They don't always look at it though - but if you don't take it they could refuse you entry.
