if my insurance company sends a loss adjuster to look at a claim, will they really be independent, or will they try to wriggle out of a claim on the underwriters behalf? im thinking a loss adjuster could argue that a problem was caused by something not covered by the insurance. as a lay person, i would be none the wiser.

before retirement spent many years working with loss adjusters. I Always found them totally independent and fair. However they will not suffer fools gladly and they're are very good at spotting fraud. Over the years I found if you are straight with them they will be straight with you,
They must be independent and a member of C.I.L.A. (Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters).
And as Vulcan states, they will be straight down the line with no bias either way unless they smell a rat/suspect fraud.
I'm not 100% convinced, maybe because I've never known a loss adjuster adjust the amount claimed upwards, it's always downwards to the insurance company's benefit.

The only reason an insurance company will appoint a loss adjuster will be to get the claim reduced.
The loss adjuster is appointed by the insurance company, so will be looking after their interests, in a fiar and professional manner. However, if your claim is a big one, you can appoint your own to negotiate on your behalf....
