Hinge faults on HP Presario

I have a compaq presario which has developed a slight fault with the hinge. Whilst the hinge is at 45 degree angle the laptop screen is firm but if moved to a slighty different angle the screen is "floppy" until moved to another angle. This "floppy" area occurs for approx 3/4"..... any ideas to firm up the hinges or do they need to be replaced.
