So, on the first day of the Iraq enquiry, the former Chief of the Joint Intelligence Services has given evidence that ...

2 years before 9/11, the Govt, and the US started planning to go into Iraq to effect a "regime change"

But they were advised that there was no legal basis on which to invade Middle Eastern territories.

So they had planned an invasion, but did not have an excuse to go ahead with it.

All the joint UK/US invasion plans had to be put on hold.

But the Govts were soooo desparate to launch the invasion.

And then ... 9/11 happened.

Well ... that was handy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JJ it is sad but Messrs Blair and Bush will get away with this
the best wars start without reason
Question Author
This one had a reason, apparently.

The reason was that it had been planned 2 years earlier.
from the DM.......

Tony Blair was told Saddam Hussein may not have been able to use his chemical weapons ten days before war was declared, the Iraq Inquiry was told today.
forward thinking is good, when Scotland got devolution the British army were practicing invading beaches on the coasts of Scotland
Don't pretend that Iraq was a perfect place before 9/11, JJ.

Even at the time of the last Tory government (remember that) there was the Iraq supergun affair, where Saddam was buying parts to build an enormous gun.

I know, Panic.

That's not the point.

The point is that, if 9/11 was not planned by the US and UK Govt's ...

... then it was VERY, VERY handy for them that it came along when it did.
