I am sorry, but I think you are muddling up a company going bankrupt and owing you money. If this happened before you got your kitchen, and it was paid for by Credit Card, then the Credit Card company would be liable.

However the Credit Card company is NOT involved in any way just because the kitchen was badly fitted, you need to take that up with Kitchens Direct, quoting the Sale of Goods Act.

Each credit card company has a team of plumbers, tilers, lawyers, carpenters and bus drivers in each major city. If you have any problems at all, just give them a ring and they'll send someone round with a Sport Billy bag to sort things out.

I think the reality is that if you are at risk of suffering financial loss after making a purchase on a credit card then you can claim the money back through them.
I'm not sure how it covers buying something that turns out to be faulty.
Call them anyway and see if their bus driver can help you.
It's the 1974 Consumer Credit Act Section 75 that applies (providing the kitchen cost less than 30,000) The credit card company is equally responsible as they provided the money to fit the kitchen. Get in touch wi the local Trading Standards section at the council or Citizens' Advice Bureau and I'm sure they'll advise you.

sorry mystress & stevie - you are both incorrect.

As Corbyloon says - under Section 75 of the CCA, the credit card provider (please note credit card not debit or charge cards) are equally responsible for the goods as to fit for purpose, merchantable quality etc.

Your first recourse should always be with the kitchen company, but if they are not being helpful, you can go to the credit card provider.

This would also apply if you purchased goods on a hire purchase agreement.

You must have spent at least 100 on your credit card and the goods must cost (as corbyloon says) under 30,000

It is always a good idea to buy any big purchases on a credit card for this added protection

I stand corrected Mr Vic. I do recall the lower limit of 100 - I just wasn't sure how covered you were with "faulty" goods so was unnecessarily flippant.

Good advice, well done sir.

Did Kitchen Direct employ the Kitchen Fitter.  Did you purchase a supply and fit kitchen.  If you you did purchase a complete service then Kitchens direct would be responsible and you would have a call on the credit card company once you had exhausted any attempt at gaining compensation in the first instance from Kitchens direct.
