I bought a mature Summer Jasmine about three years ago and this year is the first time I have seen flowers on it. There are only a few flowers and the shrub is 6ft tall. I saw a fully flowered Jasmine a while back that smelled beautiful. How long will it be before my Jasmine too has plenty of sweet smelling flowers? Also how can i encorougae it to grow quicker? If pruning is best then I will, but I am loathe to chop it back when it takes so long to grow. One other thing and that I am not sure is right, and that is some of the leaves have gone red!

Jasmines do seem to have good years & bad.
Firstly, is it in the right place?  It likes to be in a warm sunny spot, preferably not too windy especially during the winter.  The soil should be moist but not waterlogged & feeding with a rose or flowering shrub fertiliser will help.  Prune lightly after flowering if necessary. However, I had to cut mine back down to the ground last year to enable some work to be done & I have to say it's come back better than it ever was & has been smothered in flowers!!  The red leaves could be due to cold or drought.
