I have never found Katherine Jenkins' singing enjoyable to listen to, or her personality genuine. Do you think she would have been as successful as she is if she wasn't a good-looking young woman? I don't.

She reminds me of Holly Willoughby (sp?). They look the same and act the same, both heavily reliant on their looks and other assets.
Janis Joplin was ridiculed because of her looks at college but made up for it in voice and charisma.

Not jealous at all. In fact I said good luck to her. She has a good voice (but not exceptional) so she does have some talent. However, personality and looks wise I feel Holly and her are very similar. I can't see any other female jealousy here either. Just 'cos we don't rate someone doesn't mean we are jealous. Only a man could think that!!! ;o).

I still feel that a plainer girl would not have made it this far. If you are plain your talents have to be exceptional and very unique to get anywhere and Katherine is not exceptionally talented - there are many who have studied music and got to her level and have an equally good voice.
and I can't think of anything worse than being on television and having to sing, even if I was beautiful!!! So definitely not jealous.

But I seriously think that the female singers you mention all have unique voices and are memorable - they can't be mistaken for anybody else - not better than Katherines but more interesting and that is why they have done well despite not being traditionally beautiful. That is what I meant actually. Katherine has an average good voice and is talented but no better than very many in her sphere. Without her looks she would have a career in music but not be at the forefront. Her looks have actually been what has given her the acclaim. Her looks have made her the forces sweetheart. And as I said, good luck to her.

Can you honestly say her voice offers anything different from a great deal of light operatic singers?

I see your point, but I cannot see a hint of jealousy in any of the answers to be honest. I have just read them all through again! Us ladies are not that shallow, honestly. We don't dislike other women just because they are beautiful in fact we usually are happy to state openly how beautiful they are. I certainly don't detect any jealousy in chirpy's question. I think Zacsmaster was unfair with his posting.

I think Cheryl Cole is lovely looking but I think she has a dreadful voice. Her fame has to be on looks alone and media hype surely!! Her first solo release looks to be a a record breaker. At least Katherine has some talent.

Nice talking to you. What do you prefer as a shortened name by the way - I simply cannot memorise your user name - old age you know!! ;o)
