my ex has changed the locks on the front door and refuses to give me a key? can I legally break into the property all my possessions are there and I own half of it.

Yes, but it'd be better to have a police officer with you when you do, otherwise there could be disputes over "missing" personal items, which may be argued as theft.
I would check this out as I am sure you cannot break in without risking arrest for criminal damage, even if the house is yours

You are only entitled to a key IF your name is on the deeds or lease, not just because you used to live there or that your personal belongings are still there
