Please has anyone any ideas what I can do to cover old worn out coloured concrete in my small back garden have tried using a varnish to bring it back to life but it looks no better any ideas would be appreciated

A good DIY store will have concrete stain... I use a product made by Behr here in the U.S. It's very durable and comes in several shades. I especailly like Terra-cotta. It can either be brushed on or applied with a roller. A similar product should be available in the U.K., I imagine...
Another option would be to put paving slabs over the top - obviously the concrete base would make this really easy and you can pick them up quite cheaply.
you could just gravel over the top and arrange a few slabs around it so that it breaks it up and have a path - instant make over I did it in my old flat and was great as i was on the ground it also meant i felt secure as you cant walk on gravel without it making a noise
