Can anyone suggest a container to hold paint in whilst up a ladder. The tin is to large to hold and does not have a handle. I have looked at a number of ways to do this but none are particularly practical. Any ideas would be welcome.

Hi Stayahead, go into a builders merchants and buy a paint kettle. They come in different sizes and can be galvanised steel or plastic. If you get yourself a S hook for holding the kettle while you are on the ladder. You can either buy one or make it from old coat hanger. Hope this helps.
TheShedman's answer is spot on. I use a paint kettle exactly as he says. You don't need to pour the paint into it (that means that you have to clean it out afterwards). Just stand the paint tin in it. I made a hook out of a wall tie. Best of luck.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. As it happens, I cut up a 4pt milk bottle so that the handle remained and I had enough space for the paint.
But what happened to the milk?
