Is there someone that takes serviceable but old fashioned cameras? I hate to throw good but out of date equipment out with the rubbish.

It depends what kind of camera you have. Many people are interested in and pay good money for the good makes and/or are old - say 1960 and before. More recent and every day types are harder to move on, specially now that there are so many digital cameras around. There's always the charity shop or boot fair...??
