It's apparently military slang for post meridiem.
Hope sarumite doesn't mind me answering
Pip emma and ack emma was RAF slang during the war for AM and PM.
It is from WW1 telegraph code (it predates the Nato phonetic alphabet.)

We still use Ack Emma for AM
Pip Emma for PM
Ack Ack for Anti-Aircraft
and you may have heard of an organisation called Toc Aitch (T.H.)
