Cream for sauce

I've only been able to get whipping cream instead of double cream,for a creamy pasta dish this evening. Previously,when I've used whipping cream,it's separated when I've stirred it into the sauce and pasta,just before serving. Has anyone any tips on preventing this,and ruining all my hard work!!
