there are 1 or 2 files I would like to remain private.Is there a way to password rotect these files while allowing others free use of my computer

depending how strong you want the encryption, you can also download a freeware version of PGP: http://www.pgp.com

that offers the strongest encryption you'll find. not even the government could break into your files.

alternatively, if you only need weak encryption, or just a password protection, you could always put the files into a password-protected zip or rar file.

All this program does is password protect the folder, simple as that.
