Point him in the direction of the 'Jack Reacher' novels by Lee Child - you won't hear a peep out of him for weeks!
Andy Mc' Bloody' Nabb... Although that's a particular genre so depends what his actual interests are. My best mate is very fond of Patrick McGrath.
We had a 'Books for Blokes' promotion in the libraries a year or so ago. The list included Casino Royale, Trainspotting, Fight Club and Fever Pitch.

My bloke's recently enjoyed autobiographies by Richard Hammond, Russell Brand, Ronnie Wood and recently, Alan Carr.
Anything by Bernard Cornwell, Conn Iggledon (sp), Robert Ludlum. There are loads of popular writers
I'd suggest Mark Haddon's "Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time" and "A Spot of Bother".

there are other Mitch Albom books. I've read "For One More Day" which is quite thought provoking.
Wilbur Smith, especially his early works the,Courtney and Ballantyne books but remember to check as these are a series and best ready in order, as well as many fine stand alone books. Gerald Seymore,(Harrys Game)Patrick OBrians' Jack Aubry books (again a series which includes Master and Commander the basis of the Russell Crowe Film) Loads of good books about as I'm sure you'll gather from the replies you get

Thank you to you all! Plenty of books to go check out now!
Wilbur Smith for adventure; Simon Scarrow for historical novels (mainly Roman Britain) and Sven Hassel for war stories (about the German Army - but frank and brutal).
I would have thought that authors who write the male equivalent of "chick lit" would be people like Nick Hornby, Mike Gayle, and Tony Parsons. Not recommending any of them, but just providing a literary equivalent.

Hi, I notice you posted this question quite a while ago, but would highly recommend anything by Mil Millington. Very funny, especially enjoyed "Things My Girlfriend And I Have Argued About"
