Why do doctors give you crisps and cereals with hardly any milk once you've had your tonsils out?

Is it just a rumour?

somebody said that they found out that you heal better with crunchy stuff so they stopped giving people jelly and icecream and changed to crisps.

or is this just a lie to scare children?

The reason they encourage normal diet is that crunchy foods creat extra chewing & extra chewing = saliva and hey presto saliva is the mouths greatest healer - by the way thats your saliva not other peoples!!!LOL
Trust me - someone who has looked after alot of tonsillectomies - the quickers you get back to normal diet the quicker you heal!
My son was 6 when he had his tonsils and adenoids out. Within half an hour of getting back onto the ward he was tucking into burger and chips! He loved every mouthful and NEVER complained
