Can any scientists out there tell me the difference between 'oxYacid' and 'oxOacid'?

I'd not heard of 'OxOacid'...

LesD - I found similar, but am still waiting for a Professor Frink to qualify the answer...
Oxyacid has the correct prefix but both appear in scientific dictionaries with the same meaning. Straightforward dictionaries (eg Chambers) I've checked do not have oxoacid but do have oxyacid with precisely the definition set out in the clue.
