Have you seen the TV ad giving advice about stopping the spread of Flu? That 'orrible man sneezes all over the place, another man touches the buttons then holds his wifes' hand? Well, years ago, my doctor told me that a virus can't be spread in that manner. He said a virus cannot live outside of anyones body. It is passed from person to person by bodily contact, not wafted on the air or from hard surfaces. That's what they said back in the Eighties when there was all the fuss about HIV. That a virus can only be passed on by bodily contact. So what's happened since then? Have viruses changed? Does anyone know?

good question! but isnt it where the virus lives in the body? yes they are short lived outside the body but they still live. this virus is present in the respiratory tract which is different from hiv because thats in the blood.
poltergeist are you a squid by perchance?
a what? im lost
Hiv doesn't just live in the blood also in semen, vaginal fluid, breast milk, saliva, and tears.

I think the flu virus is different it can be spread by coughing etc and touching objects which someone with the flu virus has touched.
its not in saliva

swine flu only affects men ;0)
it can be airborn if coughed though if its in the respiritory tract
Yeah and what are the bloody government doing about it?! A leaflet drop. Well fcuk me, that's going to help. (Not that I think it is anything other than media panic and the possibility for the government to bury bad news, but I am just a cynical old cow).
As the saying goes 'coughs & sneezes spreads diseases' - they say the cold virus can even be caught through your eyes.

Poltergeist is right - a virus can live for a short time outside the body - so perhaps when an infected person sneezes another person in the firing line can then breath it in, through nose or mouth - so hence it is passed on.

That advert is gross - but the fact it is on your hands then you touch your face, eyes, mouth etc, the virus enters your body.

The motto of the story - ALWAYS WASH YOUR HANDS.

I always say to my son when he moans about washing his hands - a few seconds washing your hands before eating can save 1 week in bed with a stomach bug - or now pig flu !!
lol charisse....it should
Someone on the tv tonight said that swine flu was not quite as bad as 'man flu' lol
Poltergeist HIV is carried in saliva according to the Dept of Health and Human Services center for disease control and prevention.

The guy who caught it from his friend(the groom who contracted it in Mexico) obviously caught it from airborne germs.

If it spreads as easily as the media are saying we've probably already got it anyway.

a scared populus is easier to control .
we are in the midst of a depression with high unemployment and low value on our savings and investments .
a volatile situation with potentialy civilian unrest .

Am I right ?
I'm not wrong !
If there is hysteria...it is all do to the media. They are going to milk this for all it is worth.
