Question Author
To novalis - many thanks for your answers am ashamed I had forgotten the expression bonne femme, which in french means housewife. Having lived there for 10 years and been a professional cook I am doubly ashamed. We have never heard of fresh gale, only gale force. That one's from my husband who has had a love of sailing for 65 years. Oh well as we don't set the darn xword we shouldn't complain. soderberg
