My mother is reliant on subtitles when watching television, but 3-4 days ago these seem to have disappeared from BBC programs, on each of the tv sets.

There is no problem with ITV, Channel 4 and Sky Sports etc. where they are still showing, so the settings are presumably right.

The contract is with Virgin Media, who I have contacted, and who as expected said the fault was not with them.

Has anybody else suffered this problem, and do you please know who I can contact to rectify it?

Just been on there & pressed settings then change display & audio then subtitles' when available' It may be that bbc did'nt have subtitles available at the time you tried? May be someone else on here can help?? Hope you get it sorted for your mum xxx

Sachs, many thanks for your post.

Yes, the settings are correctly turned on for subtitles, and all was fine until a few days ago. It seems odd that they have only disappeared from BBC programmes.
Hi sarumite
We have silly intermittent problems with subtitles, but on Sky. The way we overcome it is to unplug the box from the wall so it resets itself and then magically its business as usual!
Perhaps you could try this with your box?
Are you from Salisbury BTW?

Thanks for the suggestion squsalminney ... if it was on only one set this problem had arisen, your suggestion may well be the answer. But as the subtitles have suddenly disappeared from tv sets upstairs and downstairs, it's likely the problem lies elsewhere?
However, I will certainly give it a go!! (S)
