My supplier is saying I have to pay 180 a month for electric and 110 for gas. I am a single parent just living in a 3 bedroom house and have cut down using the tumble dryer and everything I can really yet they are saying if I don't pay this, they will cut my supply off. I am going to be left with nothing if I pay this. Has anyone else been in a similar situation and what did you do ? Thanks x

go to uswitch.com and find a better supplier.
Yes lil , both my gas and electric suppliers have more than doubled my monthly DD and tried to increase it again , I had to ring them up and barter to come to a compromise !

Thanks waterboatman. I have applied to switch to a cheaper company and the massive bill they say I owe now I am going to citizen advice with as I can't pay it
depends on whether the payment is for stuff you are using (which is v. expensive) or to settle a past bill also - probably the latter. you just have to keep trying to talk to them or contact the cab for help. don't panic - it always works itself out in the end x
Is this what they want you to pay EVERY MONTH from now on???
It sounds excessive in the extreme. I live in a 3-bedroom maisonette...not huge, and I have paid aprox 60 for gas and 45 for elec over the winter...and that is with card/key meters which always cost more, but allow me to keep an eye on what I am spending. I still think it costs too much.
Do you mean a month, or a quarter, as this would be a lot for a quarter of a year? I live with a friend in a 3 bed house, and our bills are not as large as yours for a whole 3 month period.

I would get both meters checked, and then failing that change suppliers.
How much do you owe them?
my last leccie bill was 380.00 for a one bedroom flat and I live on my own. Had electrician out to check it all but he says its just what it like at the moment, some prices have just gone down end of March.
just make sure you dont have things on standby through night and turn everything off by the plugs
I'd get the meters checked out. When was your meter last read? Have you had a lot of estimated bills?

I know there is a gadget you can buy that tests how much each electrical appliance uses and I think there is a website where you check the average usuage of certain items but not sure what it is called. Maybe someone technical would know.

We have a 4 bedroomed house and the amount you pay is about what we pay for 6 months and in the winter I have the heating on as I have 2 small children and I do use the tumble dryer quite a lot
