Does anyone else get as irritated as I do when I have put some time and effort into answering a question and the questioner doesn't give any sign at all that I've been a help - or hinderance?

I did post a question asking for a thank you page so people would know that they had helped - but as usual was put down. Now I try to thank them on the thread. And thank you Mrs Pudding if you have ever helped me and I had ignored you.
No, Mrs P, you just have to reply to questions out of sheer disinterested love of imparting knowledge (or in my case, sounding like a pub bore). A star or two is always comforting, but there's no point in expecting rewards; some people say thank you and some don't, just like in the real world.

jno - you must be much nicer and more altruistic than me!  I just get cross and huffy!

mrs.pudding  I have been on here since the back end of January and have answered 100's of questions. I usually post a link so at least the person asking the question can check the answer. I have lost count of the times anwers have not been acknowledged so I don't expect a thanks these days. If thanks are given I always reply (usually) saying it's no problem.

I try to do the same.  I just think it's so RUDE not to acknowledge the effort that people put into their replies.
I always try to say thank you.  I even chased a user round other threads asking if he was ok because he had never acknowledged my help.  Didn't get a response though! Tsk tsk! Youth of today etc etc *grumbles* :-D
I am with jno, I do it to improve my karma without expectation of thanks (it is nice when you get it though!!)

I usually try to thank people individually, or post a polite 'thank you to all' at the end.

well, you're all very nice to have replied to me!  Thank you.  I'll try not to get so hot under the collar in future ..... my daughter has just come in and said "Fat chance of that happening".

I don't get irritated just a bit sad, but it's something that goes with the territory I'm afraid, mrs pudding. But the people that are genuinely pleased more than make up for the others who don't appear to bother.

Why do we do it then - because it is wonderful belonging to a great community and hopefully helping a few people as well.

Even if a thank you is too much to ask for, there are often occaisons when a bit of feedback would be useful, such as: "I tried your suggestion, and it didn't work, because...."
I agree with you enrirely, Didwot. The feedback shows you have helped or you haven't. You don't get any, well...
I agree, but, are you going to go thru all these answers marking them?
