Champagne or Plonk

I've often wondered all this fizzy champagne which winners of races spray all over each other . Is it genuine champagne or just specially prepared carbonated plonk ? Anyone know ?

Thanks I suppose when you are on a �million a year the odd bottle of even decent champers is neither here nor there.

in one country last year they made them use fizzy fruit punch instead of champagne
