The film is Koyaanisqatsi.

It is an American indian word meaning "life out of balance"

The director was not japaneese, it was Godfrey Reggio

It was not 40 minutes it was 86 minutes.

It used all sorts of techniques, not just speeded up.

It had amazing musical score by Philip Glass.

The style has been copied by many people since in adverts and other films.
