Hi all my daughter looked at a repossessed property in veiw of buying. Inside the properety there had been many alterations ie; rooms knocked out /rooms built, double garage made into single to encorperate a utility, of which none of the above have been finished also some ceilings have been removed to replace electrics but her and her partner would not be fased by any of this as they would enjoy the chalenge, our question is how would she know if the previous owner would have had planning permission to do this work, please help

If the external appearance of the structure from the outside has not been altered, it is very likely that Planning Consent is required. However virtually all of the changes you mention required Building Regulations approval and without that, you have very little idea to what std the work has been done. Knocking two rooms into one is particularly suspect.
Unless you know whjat to look for, I'd steer clear - this situation is likely to be worse than an unmodified house - at least one knows it has been built to a standard and not tinkered with since.

Hi thankyou builder, my daughter has spoke with the estate agent whome has told her there was no permision obtained so she will not be persuing with this project, but thanks again. There is onething that who evers does purchase will have problems with is that apparently it has to be put back to how it was but no one will know this, also one cannot get a mortgage apparently so the buyer must pay cash. cheers
