Please can you erudite technical chaps help me with this problem (you've done very well in the past!). I bought a new computer - it is very fast compared with what I had, it is an HP Compaq - but where do I start with the questions?

I finally got everything connected and working but my Outlook Express is finished, I am on Windows Mail, and nothing comes through - I can access my emails through my providers site, so I have read them but it is a nuisance - what can I do?

Also, I am with Waitrose, and they were my home page but now AOL comes up, I am not with them and I want Waitrose back! I know I can phone Waitrose and they will help me, they certainly have many times in the past, poor things, but why can't I get my old settings back?

Will I just have to accept that things are different (and much faster) and I will have to put up with it? Thanks in advance, if anyone can help.

Check your smtp and pop3 settings.

To do so, open Windows Mail.
Go to Tools > Accounts.
Click on your email account (assuming, of course, that it actually exists) and select Properties.
Click Servers.
Check that the information under 'Server Information' and 'Incoming Mail Server' is correct. Your incoming mail server needs to be set to be a POP3 type, with the actual address entered as 'mail.waitrose.com'. Your outgoing (SMTP) server address should be entered as 'smtpmail.waitrose.com'.

It's likely that you'll find an error. Correct it, click 'Apply' and 'OK'.

If your mail account doesn't even exist, click 'New' (instead of clicking on the account name and selecting 'Properties'). Then follow the prompts to set up the account.

To change your home page (with Internet Explorer), go to whatever page you require. Click Tools > Internet Options. In the 'Home Page' section, click 'Use current', then 'Apply' and 'OK'.

A thousand thanks, Buenchico, I have printed your instructions and done exactly what you said and everything has worked and I am now back on Waitrose and I have 142 emails but have deleted nearly all of them - this new computer has got phishing and junk mail filters which would not have worked on those emails as they were to my old computer. So I should be ok there in the future. Thank you very much again - I hope you see this as it is rather a long time since I asked, but domesticity came in between!

I think that new hotel in wherever it is has seven stars - I could only give your answer three, but it rated ten.

I think you mean `Dubai` for the ******* hotel.
Perhaps I should have typed it thus * * * * * * * as the other way looks like it could have meant a swear word.

you can create a new directory in the outlook or you can installed it in the computer again.

if all the things was stored in the computer and was working fine ,

you can restore the computer as previous.

you can download the mozilla firefox its a very good web page .you can use it to the web page . it is very fast in compare to others.

you can use google mail for the new mails .it is also free.

Yes I did mean Dubai, it is called the Burj Al Arab, I think, it is very opulent, they say it costs sixty pounds just to go in the place, extra for coffee I suppose - in shape rather like the Spinnaker Tower at Portsmouth, but wider of course - just shows there's nothing new under the sun.

I do have a few more questions if anyone can be bothered with me - for instance, my new modem has a switch at the back of it, which I keep forgetting to switch on when I first go online, so I can't. Would it be alright to leave this switch on? It means there are two green lights on all the while on the modem. Also, a green light shows at the back of the tower at night (can't see it in daylight) is it alright to have this on all the time or should I shut the power off at the wall plug? Will it over heat? Will it take lots of electricity, I can't think that it could but in these stringent times.....
