My daughter is a child minder and she has been called up for jury duty. If she goes to the court she has been told by the parents of the children that they may be forced to look for another minder. If this happens my daughter will loose her livelihood until she can get more children to mind.
Would this be sufficient enough to have her excused jury duty?

TIA.

She would have to contact the relevant liaison department at the Court ASAP outlining her reasons to be excused. She would then be advised accordingly.
Seems a bit mean of the family she childminds for, though?
we're in wales so I don't know if its the same but my partner just got called up for jury duty, he works in the building trade. He wrote a letter to the jury summoning officer asking to be excused because he was worried about the security of his job if he were to take this time off, due to the current economic situation. He was excused no questions asked. hope this helps!

Firstly I apologise. I should have said Jury Duty.
I was on a jury.
SOme people were excused during the process to pick the jury.

people dont realise the implications of being on a jury.
mine was at the hugh court in edinburgh and lasted 2 weeeks and we found the guy guilty.

whilst there i heard of a murder trial that had lasted a year
the implications regarding jobs and even holidays etc with your family are great.

Tell them and im sure they will give consuideration to your plight.

knowing that if youre on a jury and lose your livelihood your mind may not be on the trial anyway.

hope this helped ?
I can ditto Leg -they dont want anyone on Jury Duty who are unable to fulfil the length of the trial and also the hardship it would cause.

They always have plenty on standby -I got a citation a few years ago putting me on the list for Jury Duty.I know that I couldnt do it so my GP would have to have me exempted as I would only be sitting there for half an hour and have a panic attack -waste of everyones money.

I would tell her not to fret and to wait until she actually has been cited for a particular date-doesnt look like she has from what you say.

Thank you all for responding.
I'm guessing that the situation there must be somewhat similar to here in Ireland - check out the legality of suffering penalty from the employer for turning up for statutory jury duty - I'm guessing they simply can't fire her.
