Can I just explain something that I didnt explain too well earlier. Google had a virus but it was cleared quickly and posed no great threat. This latest problem where people are directed to a warning message about harmful sites is nothing to do with the virus its a fault /problem that google has in itself now. All you have to do is go to control panel delete all your cookies and temporary internet files and your google will be back to normal. I only said to run a virus scan as a precaution as you should do after anything such as this. Hope this clarifies things and helps if anyone still has this problem

The "problem" went away as soon as Google fixed it. I did not have to delete a cookie, or anything else.

There is an item on Ceefax about this. Google say it happened becasuse of "human error", and they fixed it after 40 minutes.
It's also been on the news and stated as being human error. If that's correct, fair enough.

I used alltheweb instead of google for a while. Later I found it ok again.
this article explains what happened -

Yes it did go away as you rightly say but some people have been stuck with it like I have all afternoon and by deleting the TIF thats on their PC it got rid of the problem. I was just giving them a way to resolve it as a lot were worried their pcs were infected with a virus, which of course they weren't.
And although google did fix it their 40 minutes was the longest 40 minutes ive ever known as I got this just after lunch and was still swearing at it nearly 2 hours later. lol
