I am fascinated by airports and actually love travelling through them. I am always looking for what quality a certain airport has that others havent. please when talking about 'worst' airports bear in mind the relative wealth of the country and whether it can afford the luxuries that other wealthier nations can. I remember Mumbai airport as a crow was resident (trapped?) in the baggage hall and all the kids loved its antics. Any other such airport stories?

Thanks for that. does the job nicely
my favourite airport is Changi airport in Singapore. The best I've been in considering the wealth of the country was Apia in Samoa, really nice and clean and a local band playing in the baggage claim area!
I think there used to be a lady who met the planes at Apia with cookies for sale - she still there?
The following site is fascinating. Not quite what you are looking for, but does give you a feel for various airports and their 'long term' qualities:

Once spent 12 hours at Schipol due to fog. After that long you tend to think it's not a nice place.
Was quite good for the first couple of hours.
Jo'berg is good.
jno - no don't remember a cookie lady!

We flew to Las Vegas last year and changed planes at Newark - quite possibly staffed by the rudest officials in the world.  In contrast the people at Macarran airport in LV could not have been more helpful - my husband fainted after getting off the plane (too much booze, no water and no fags for 11 hours, so his own silly fault, sympathetic me? hehe) and one of the cleaners called a paramedic for us, and after he had been sorted out another official took us down to the baggage claim area on one of those golf buggies that you see at airports. Cool!
