Dry lips

For many years I've used Neutrogena Lip Balm and it always worked well. My lips without balm, dry out and feel tight and uncomfortable and I've been told this is because lips become addicted to this kind of excess moisture.

My lips now build up a horrible dry crust of dead skin, which can be peeled away. Does anyone know of any good products, which will keep my lips feeling soft and hydrated?

Thanks

I use Carmex as and when I need it and I think it is brilliant, you can really feel it doing it's tingly magic. Sometimes though I will put some Vaseline on before I go to sleep at night as it soaks in during the night, but I find it way to greasy to wear during the day (I have long-ish hair and wear glasses to work so end up with smears across my glasses where my hair has blown across my face - eugh).
Velvetee, I absoluetly swaer by Carmex. I haven't had dry lips once in the last seven years since using it. I use the lovely cherry one now and it also has a SPF15.

Also, if your lips are particularly bad, try brushing them gently with an old toothbrush before applying Carmex.
Hi Velvetee
I understand and sympathise but please dont use a petroleum based lipsalve of anysort again. For the reasons you have alreday discovered for yourself. Dryness, irritation, crusty lips, less moisture than before you started and so on.
Mineral oil or petroleum based balms and glosses, coat your lips like cling film. This effectively suffocates the skin and creates a catch 22 situation as you have already discovered. Lips get dryer so more balm applied and on it goes...
I broke the cycle with a petrochemical free balm from Innocent Oils http://www.innocentoils.com/index4prod.html and now reguarly use their LITTLE GREEN BALM which is amazing, and can be used as a face moisturiser too!!! Belive me once you leave behind the chemicals you will never look back. :D

Best of luck and I hope you find a lip saviour soon. x
