Hi - we're moving house this weekend to somewhere about 2 miles away. Question is: should we leave moggy in old house til last minute (in the bathroom so he doesnt escape), or move him in first (put him in a room there)?

I would put moggy in the bathroom with all his stuff...maybe a duvet that smells of you to sleep on & leave moving him until you have moved everything else.

If it's possible, try to leave him until everything is in place, if that isn't possible then make him 1 room that is escape proof & that is filled with familiar things that will be quiet & away from too much banging & crashing so that he will be calm.

Absolutely agree with Purple Pixie.  Make sure there is a big notice on the door reminding the removal people not to enter with the reason why.  He might just bolt if the door is opened.

Good luck with the move.

move cat last. He will feel better in a new place if it has some familar aspects to it (all your stuff in there)

But i would prepare yourself for his escape attemp to get back home eventually - mine was a right pest when it came to getting him to accept new home.

We moved twice in one year - into a rented farmhouse inbetween homes - our cat is a feral that adopted us and lives outside (though comes in during the day). We took her on the final journey of each move, and she accepted things with no problem. Bosom pals with the dog, so I guess that helped. (moves were 10 miles away each time).
