does anybody know what the ukiyo-e art in japan was??

does anybody know what the ukiyo-e art in japan was?? it was started off in the shogun period. i think it was getting smuggled into japan at the time but i'm not quite sure.. any ideas anyone???

was going to post you a link, but if you just search on ukiy-e, there are loads. If my memory serves, ukiyo-e means the floating world and the pictures are about the lives of geisha
