The other night, as I was trying to get to sleep, the oddest thing happened.

As I was dozing off, I felt something about the size of a cat jump onto the bottom of my bed, run up and then jump around my head. I opened my eyes and it stopped. Twice after that, as I was dropping off to sleep the scampering around my head happened again; on the second occasion, I tried to say "stop", but found that I could not speak.

I had a head full of cold and was possibly running a temperature - but this was quite a realistic and slightly scary experience.

Any explanations? I'm thinking in terms of congestion causing my inner ear canals to cause confusion. But it would be interesting to hear any theories - and whether there are any parallels in the supernatural sense!

We don't even know enough about the human brain to warrant discarding it as a possible cause for some of the things we see.
But I believe that we don't know enough about our own enviroment to know what is poassible and what is not.
I find this quotes just as Important when dealing with this sort of thing. From SHerlock Holmes....
"It is an old maxim of mine that when you have excluded the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."
natalie_1982 is right! It sounds just like sleep paralysis. You were actually dreaming and your body was unable to move because your brain had shut it down to stop you sleep walking etc! I have had this before but the more recognised person (black shadowy) coming into my room and holding me down, whilst I tried to shout "stop!" but couldn't. I have found that you get this when ill or stressed. I got this on the first night in a new house.
definitely could have been an hallucination - i had the flu once and was convinced my mum had been sitting by my bed holing my hand, when she'd died 6 months earlier. My sister in law had a similar experience while running a temperature
I get sleep paralysis quite frequently and night terrors, along with frequent nightmares!! No hope for me really!!
When I was about 10 I had the flu quite badly and the doctor prescribed me penicillan - and I woke up that night feeling really strange, and felt I was floating above myself and I could look down and see myself in bed! This scared me enough to never take penicillan again, although it could have been the fever.
I used to have this years ago, I used to go to bed then hear a ringing in my ears. I used to be totally paralysed and felt there was some dark menacing entity in the room which was going to hurt me. I used to try and struggle free and speak or scream,or,just try and do something but I couldn't!!

Then there would be other times when I saw three hooded figures at the bottom of my bed dressed in white. Like Benedictine monks of old. These things stopped after I became a Christian and stopped dabbling in occult activities!!
My mother is 82. When she was a young girl she shared a bed with her sister. One night they both awoke and saw a lady in grey at the bottom of the bed - she then disappeared. Only happened once.
When my wife still lived with her parents the third stair from the bottom was always icy cold - summer and winter - 24 hours a day every day. No one ever lingered on that step. Can anyone offer an explanation?
This is my house with its hauntings.
