Who Can See My Bank Account

Can any organisation see details of my account and my bank balance? For example if I amply for a credit card, credit checking agencies or collection agencies

Simple answer, no, they can't.  If you are applying for a credit card issued by your bank then yes they can.  Otherwise, no.

If you have defaulted on an overdraft or bad debt or something then the default balance will show but if you run your bank account in the normal way, no one can see your balance other than yourself and the bank staff.

To be pedantic at actually, depends on which bank you bank with. One current account does come on CAIS information ( I think it is Halifax) - it shows what your overdraft facility is (eg �250) and shows a �0 if you are in credit.

Most lenders will ignore this though.

Some mortgages also have a current account attached to them and this can confuse the credit scoring computers - I had one search that came accross my desk which said the custoemr had an overdraft of �30,000. It was actually an off set mortgage!

Always assuming that the banks, and more importantly their employees, abide by the rules. It has not been unknown for information to be leaked.
